You! Music! The floor! Lights! Coach Party drop new album ‘Caramel’
The four-piece release the follow-up to their 2023 debut ‘Killjoy’ with 10 kick-ass indie rock offerings.
Relatively new indie rock darlings, Coach Party, have released their second album after a string of singles earlier in the year. Caramel lives up to the name: sickly sweet, unnaturally addictive and surprisingly rich.
The album opens with explosive, glitter-studded power pop anthem Do It For Love, the kind of effortlessly cool and hooky powerhouse you’d expect from a veteran band with multiple albums under their belt. Other highlights include Georgina, Control — which deals with love and lust being two sides of the same irresistible coin — and La Roux-esque Medicate Yourself.
On their sophomore release, Coach Party have struck the desired balance: the four-piece build on the sound of their debut, trimming each track to the infectious fundamentals until there’s scarcely a half hour of music, while keeping the indie rock highs of Killjoy. Caramel promises sharp, melodic rock with anthems that hit as hard as more established acts like Wet Leg and Amyl & the Sniffers.
The highlights of Caramel are still the singles which preceded it — Girls! and Disco Dream (featuring Black Honey) are classics in the making — but we still have ten full tracks that head-bang, thump, punch and kick their way into the indie bloodstream. The only downside here is that they’re too short. So don’t settle down; that needle needs moving back to track one all over again.
Caramel is out now via Chess Club Records.
