pôt-pot let loose Lynchian, late-night psych-rock in debut album ‘Warsaw 480km’

The Irish quintet announce their appearance, promising some of the most intriguing, indie psychedelia of the past five years.

Following the release of its semi-title track, WRSW, back in June of this year, pôt-pot’s debut provides more psychy, hypnotic rock for those long, liminal nights driving down unmarked roads in distant countries. 22° Halo, the album’s first full-length track, is five minutes of sublime, dreamlike bliss, set to a Gizz-esque, microtonal backbeat.

Sextape, meanwhile, is a more stripped-back affair, once more embodying that timespace between the witching hours and not-quite-the-dawn, while the nearly seven-minute WRSW remains one of the standout releases of this year. pôt-pot have only just announced their presence with a debut, and yet prove masters of their own little hungover, hazy-eyed, psychedelic corner.

We waltz through the moreish, Hitchcockian fever dream of Fake Eyes before I AM! delivers some of the album’s louder, punkier moments. Can’t Handle It, a quasi-blues psych anthem, is another one to look out for; the soundtrack to a deep south barfight, while The Lights Are On delivers some of the group’s finest guitar work.

Hot Scene is one last, indie-rock jab to the throat, and Change Your Life is the watered-down whiskey to anaesthetise the pain. The result? An album that quite defies description, but remains forty minutes of alternative, exotic fuzz. pôt-pot are every inch the mysterious new kids on the block; their name is cryptic, the album title conjures impossibly long distances and dimly lit, European backroads — their music is just the soundtrack for the trip. Warsaw 480km might be the midnight sleeper train hit psych-rock was unaware it needed.

Warsaw 480km is out now via felte. Buy the album on Bandcamp here.
