Divorce share their accidental debut EP ‘Get Mean’

The rising Nottingham band unintentionally created an EP — we’re not complaining.

With their debut single only coming out earlier this year, the band have already reached acclaim from several tastemakers like The Independent and So Young Magazine, as well as completing two UK headline tours. They’ve arguably had one of the best years and they’re only just getting started.

Having started off their year by releasing Services, the playful song that put them on the map, they went on a singles kick; sharing the raucous and upbeat Pretty, which sees the songwriting duo of Tiger Cohen-Towell and Felix Mackenzie-Barrow go ham on vocals in the best way possible.

Checking Out, the last single to be released before they wrote the song that would birth their EP into existence, takes inspiration from Americana and sees Tiger take on a twang that only a true cowboy could yield.

In summer, the final piece of the puzzle was built and brought together all of the songs into one collection. Without That Hill there would be no debut EP from Divorce, at least not in the same year as the release of their first song. It’s an impressive feat, to not take at least a year to decide on which songs are going on your debut body of work. Hats off to the band and their decisiveness.

That Hill adds the balance the EP needed, bringing an earthy yet intoxicating sound to what is a fantastic outing as a new band. They’ve already started selling out shows, so catch them in 2023 while you still can.

Get Mean is out now via Hand In Hive.
