Heavy Weather present their stormy debut EP ‘And Now The Weather’
‘And Now The Weather’ is a mission statement from a band worth tuning into.
Something is brewing in Scotland, and it’s not just the weather. Since forming in 2023, Heavy Weather have repeatedly impressed with their high-energy performances at venues across Scotland. Now with their debut EP And Now The Weather, the band have successfully captured their raw and moody live energy in studio form.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Fontaines D.C., Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, and Kasabian, the Scottish band’s debut EP is a musical manifestation of their collective ethos and artistic humour. From the opening moments of ANTW, a static-soaked broadcast that drops listeners into the band’s televised world, the EP is as immersive as it is unrelenting.
After bringing funky rhythms and hook-laden guitars and slipping into a rockier chorus that surges with urgency on LFC, Rain then does exactly what it says on the tin. Percussion pelts like droplets hitting pavement, propelling the track into a whirlwind of swirling mosh pit madness. This momentum bleeds seamlessly into Grave, where hypnotic guitars merge with an increasingly dark and chaotic soundscape, fully immersing listeners in the turbulent, unpredictable and utterly engrossing world of Heavy Weather.
But, just when you think the clouds might clear, darkness continues to creep in on Scar and Lucky Star, continuing the EP’s sense of unease. Scar’s raspy vocals add a rugged sincerity to the band’s standard sonic downpour, while the emotive and tortured lyrics of each track adds an additional cinematic layer to Heavy Weather’s already shining soundscape.
Heavy Weather have bottled the energy of their raucous live shows into their debut EP and broadcast their intent loud and clear. Full of sing-along choruses and raw, restless emotion, And Now The Weather is definitely an EP worth tuning into.
