British icon Kate Nash made a name for herself in the indie scene back in 2007 thanks to her debut album Made of Bricks, which featured the massive single Foundations, catapulting her to indie stardom and many a soundtrack of teen TV shows back in the late noughties/early tens. A night out truly isn’t complete if the DJ doesn’t put the track on at least once.

After being dropped by her label in 2012 and independently releasing her 2013 album Girl Talk, Kate dipped her toes into the world of acting, performing alongside Alison Brie on Netflix’s GLOW — which was cancelled after three seasons despite it’s popularity (and thanks in part to COVID) — and even co-created and starred in her own musical, Only Gold.

Having now signed to Kill Rock Stars, the label whose alumni include Elliott Smith and Sleater-Kinney, Kate Nash will share her fifth record, written during the pandemic and finished in 2021. Thanks to her signing up to TikTok and recounting her career so far, this led to countless offers from labels who wanted to release 9 Sad Symphonies. Of course, Kill Rock Stars had been chasing Kate for two years and, once she found herself a new manager, she signed a deal with the tastemakers.

Speaking about her time in the industry, Kate says, “I’ve climbed through the sewers of this industry and so my goal is to make good music I believe in, to have longevity, and have good live shows.” If this is anything to go by, we’ll be seeing Kate Nash flourish in her very well-deserved career for a long time to come.
