Lowertown announce their 4th album ‘Ugly Duckling Union’ with new single
New track ‘I Like You A Lot’ delivers the first teaser to their upcoming album, out on May 22nd.
Lowertown, the Atlanta-based indie duo consisting of artists Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg, have released their first single since July of last year, ahead of their upcoming album release.
The duo are famously known for creating wonderful low-tempo, lo-fi inspired soundscapes that are a treat to listen to. Starting their music career in 2018, the members of Lowertown found success due to their unique sound and devotion to forming a community with their fans, whom they engage with regularly. This particular focus on community engagement developed from a time when the band were teenagers, where using Tumblr fan pages and Reddit brought people together in real life to enjoy their shared interests, before the platforms became heavily moderated.
Lowertown have nurtured a tight-knit group of fans by giving them spaces to engage with each other, like their Discord server, which allows their supporters to share their own experiences, content, and opinions regarding the band’s music.
Their community, titled the ‘Ugly Duckling Union’, now has a place to call their own, with deep lore, Minecraft servers, comics (drawn by the talented artist Doctor Nowhere, aka Silas Orion), plushies, and more. It’s no wonder that Lowertown have found the success that they have.
Prior to their signing to Dirty Hit, the band were still in high school while releasing music regularly, which caught the attention of the beloved indie singer beabadoobee, who gave them the attention they deserved.
Following this, the duo have gone on to collaborate with huge indie acts, such as They Are Gutting A Body Of Water, King Krule, Frost Children, and more.
Following their recent signing to Summer Shade, Lowertown have released their latest single I Like You A Lot, which is unconventional for the duo as it is a love-themed track, sung over lo-fi-inspired guitar riffs and gentle drums. Reminiscent of artists such as beabadoobee and Clairo, this song is a wonderful change of pace and really shows off the musical diversity of the pair.
The latest single from their upcoming album, Ugly Duckling Union, can be found now on all streaming platforms. Together with this announcement, Lowertown have also disclosed a tour across North America, beginning in late April and finishing at the end of June. Tickets will be on sale from Friday, February 13th at 10am. Buy a ticket here.
