Mariae Cassandra announces debut EP ‘Everything In My Backpocket’
The EP announcement comes with first single ‘Theodore’.
The nearly four-minute track begins and ends with a DIY charm and early-2000s angsty edge, impressive for a seventeen-year-old artist. Throughout the track, electric guitar, drums, and vocals perfectly coincide, culminating in a dual-part bridge that lets each of the individual elements breathe. The song’s lyrics describe a name that would have been hers, with the song’s chorus singing, “Theodore, you’re supposed to be born / so I can have someone to talk to.”
This is followed up with Mariae’s personal experience with growing up and learning people don’t always have good intentions with lines like “Do you wanna know what it’s like to / Write a bunch of songs for people / Who don’t care about your stupid life?”. Perfect levels of girly punk and teenage angst with the close-knit feeling of being written on her bedroom floor, she sets herself apart as an artist to watch for.
The single is the first off of Mariae’s debut 6-track EP, Everything in my Backpocket, which is set to release on November 21st. Theodore is available to stream on all platforms now.
