Brighton folk rock singer Maximilian has announced their new EP Diurnals and dropped the stripped-back lead single I Know You. The EP will come out on May 8th via Crafting Room Recordings (ELLiS·D) with the lead single available now. The rustic lead single was recorded during the weekend of the Super Beaver Moon and was recorded completely live. It features a stripped-back arrangement, underpinned by steady acoustic guitars and drums and then sprinkled with gorgeous strings and pianos.

Maximilian is a mainstay of the Brighton DIY scene and has performed with artists such as Goodbye, Florist, Flip Top Head and Junior Brother. Diurnals is the follow-up release to last spring’s expansive post-rock epic Long Time Gone, which garnered extensive praise from BBC Radio 6Music (New Music Fix), The Line of Best Fit, Far Out and Clunk.

Diurnals as a whole strips things back: acoustic instrumentation, live recording and no click track. It is music made in the moment. Lead single I Know You is cheery yet bittersweet. Maximilian’s vocal styling takes cues from Robert Smith with the melodic leanings of Elliott Smith. The production is lush and lavish. It is a testament to the love put into this music that a live recording can sound so carefully considered and crafted. You feel like you are in the room with them. It is intimate but still warm and welcoming. It is grand and orchestral, and yet you can still hear the scratching of the acoustic guitar frets. It is gentle and unassuming yet endlessly powerful and potent. With I Know You, Maximilian has achieved the best of both worlds. It is intimate music that is neither cold nor sparse, and it is always likely to bring a smile to your face.

Tracklist:

1. Soft Song For A Worried Mind

2. Rest Your Head

3. Lighting Strike

4. I Know You

Diurnals is out on May 8th via Crafting Room Recordings and, if I Know You is anything to go by, it is not one to be missed.
