Tame Impala announces album ‘Deadbeat’ following two singles
The album will be his first in 5 years.
Kevin Parker — the genius behind much-loved Tame Impala — has announced an exciting new album, dropping October 17th 2025, marking his return after five years since The Slow Rush.
Deadbeat marks a sonic shift in direction for Tame Impala, with influences of EDM, house, and the ever-growing scene of Western Australian Doof rave culture. The first single, titled End of Summer, encapsulates this transformation as a seven-minute acid house anthem; it will leave you thinking, ‘This is Tame Impala?’, but in a good way.
The album is said to have themes of self-depreciation and existential loops. Kevin himself has said it reflects the feelings of being a ‘fuck-up’, displayed in latest track Loser, with lyrics that explore emotional torment, juxtaposed by the upbeat strutting melody… kind of how we all live our lives.
One more thing to get excited about is the appearance of Stranger Things’ Joe Keery — aka Djo — in the Loser music video. This is not a surprise, as their sounds often mirror each other, with dreamy synth and retrospective lyrics, they are musically — and now visually — aligned. Putting Joe Keery’s acting skills to use, he was the perfect candidate to portray Kevin’s auditory vulnerability.
With Deadbeat, Kevin Parker dances hand in hand with his traditional synth landscapes and a new, explorative electronic sound. Like if robots could fall in love… and then have their hearts broken. Kevin also touches on fatherhood and how this influences his emotional state. This introspection is all linked together by looping dance tracks to emulate his state of being.
Tame Impala loves to keep us UK fans guessing. While he has announced a Tame Impala tour, it’s currently only on US soil. With a total of eight shows running from October to November 2025, us UK folk can only hope he returns after a successful Glastonbury all the way back in 2023.
I think it’s a great thing that Tame Impala aren’t afraid to bring together new genres and introduce an audience to something new. Deadbeat is definitely one to look forward to.
Deadbeat is out October 17th via Columbia Records.
