British indie powerhouse The Japanese House has announced her sophomore album, In the End It Always Does. The follow-up to her acclaimed debut Good At Falling, the album explores the emotions of love, loss, and the emotional spectrum encased within them. Originally a mystery artist back when she debuted in 2015, Amber Bain is now at the forefront of her work; especially in the vulnerable aspects.

Inspired by aspects of her polyamorous relationship, relocating to Margate, and a creative break during the pandemic in 2021, In the End It Always Does transcends her previous indie elements and shifts into the pop world. Bain is the heart of the record, however, it sees production work from The 1975’s Matty Healy and George Daniel, indie giant Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, and the rising indie pop band MUNA’s Katie Gavin. Producer and engineer Chloe Kraemer and Gavin shared the largest part of the album’s heart according to Bain, who found inspiration and common ground with them upon working together.

Sad to Breathe starts as a ballad about a breakup before it electrifies in the middle of its chorus with lively guitars and percussion paired with electronic elements that create an unexpected (but awesome) vibe. A full-fledged indie banger, the second taste of In The End It Always Does shows off the immense talent of The Japanese House, who shares production credits with Daniel and Kraemer. It has the essential sonics as the album’s lead single, Boyhood, but takes on a more electronic/dance pathway to turn a sad moment post-breakup into a moment to dance the feels away.

The second part of Bain’s upcoming album gives listeners another song to relate to and more of her musical world to dive into. Perhaps it leads into her most personal project yet, or maybe it’s a anecdote with a possibility to be universally understood. Either way, The Japanese House will follow up their acclaimed music with what makes her so powerful: the masterful blend of indie sonics and personable lyricism.

In the End It Always Does will be released June 30th via Dirty Hit.
