The Rolling Stones announce new album ‘Foreign Tongues’
After weeks of mystery, the iconic British rockers are back, complete with two thrilling new singles.
The Rolling Stones have announced their twenty-fifth album, set for a July 10th release.
Foreign Tongues, featuring classic Stones-inspired artwork by Nathaniel Mary Quinn, follows 2023’s much-lauded Hackney Diamonds. Featuring an impressive line-up of guest artists — Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith and Chad Smith — the album is preceded by the release of pumping lead single In the Stars.
The new album has been the subject of much mystery and hype over the past few weeks, with a promotional campaign featuring minimalist billboards in countless non-English territories and a very limited run of the album’s opener, Rough and Twisted, on 7” vinyl, under the moniker ‘The Cockroaches’.
Foreign Tongues was recorded in under a month at Metropolis Studios in London, where part of Hackney Diamonds was also produced. The album boasts performances from core Stones collaborators Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford and Steve Jordan. Perhaps most notably, the album also captures one of the final recording sessions of drummer Charlie Watts before his tragic passing in 2021.
The two tracks released so far from Foreign Tongues, Rough and Twisted and In the Stars, show the Stones at the top of their form over sixty years after their inception. The former, a typically Stonesy blues rock number, owes much to prior offerings Voodoo Lounge and A Bigger Bang. Lead single In the Stars, meanwhile, echoes the thumping ballad-y heights of Hackney Diamonds. Both are worthy additions to the Stones’ canon, and testament to the fact that, when it comes to rock ‘n’ roll, age don’t mean a thing.
Foreign Tongues is out July 10th via Polydor Records.
