Tired of the patriarchy? So are Lincoln-based alternative rock girl-band Comic Sans. Don’t be fooled by the name, these rockers aren’t anything like the highly loathed computer font; they’re a million times radder.

Their latest single after their debut album Character Assassination, MAN is a feminist anthem that packs a punch. With raging guitar riffs, vocals that echo a rallying cry, and lyrics that tackle misogyny with a won’t-back-down mindset, it’s a power rager for the ages.

A reflection of the hardships and roadblocks that women face in society under the patriarchy, MAN is aptly titled. Vying for a seat at the table and demanding basic respect, especially in a male-dominated industry, isn’t something these ladies are going to bargain for; it’s something they will get. They want their own autonomy and to stop being expected to please societal norms that have been constructed, and make this very clear when singing, “What if I don’t want a child? / What if I don’t want to smile? / What if it’s my body and I do what I want?” all whilst chanting “Down with the man!” as a mantra that’s sure to be stuck in your head.

With much work left to be done and the battles still yet to be won, anyone in the scene looking for someone who knows what it’s like to be subjected to the patriarchy’s hellish ways won’t need to look any further than Comic Sans.

With the gusto instrumentals of the biggest rock powerhouses, vocals that will have everyone dying to belt along, and the guts to stand up for themselves and empower others, there’s no doubt that there will be big things in store for these awesome ladies. They’re just as good as the competition (regardless of gender), and they have the badassery to propel them to stardom. Keep your eyes out for these girls and the glass ceilings they will shatter with their voices.
