Eaves Wilder’s ‘Better Together’: another sign of the artist’s promising future

Combining hazy dream pop with a more than memorable chorus, Wilder continues to prove she is a clever and playful songwriter as she releases one of her best songs yet.

In her first new single since the release of her debut EP Hookey earlier this year, Eaves Wilder has again proven her ability to write an insanely catchy tune. Injecting a fresh shot of energy into her already established sound – mesmerizing guitars, memorable choruses and massive pop hooks – Better Together stands out as stellar track amongst her fast-growing repertoire.

Inspired by an interview in which Pharrell stated that “songs should be an argument”, Wilder jumps between two perspectives in the single, telling the story of someone who is sceptical of love and another who is trying to convince them otherwise.

By taking on such a lyrical challenge and ignoring the norms of music, Wilder has successfully showcased her love for, and skill in, intelligent song-writing. Her engaging lyrics circle the brain for hours, just like the earworm chorus which begs to be played on repeat, while her sickly-sweet vocals make it hard not be ensnared by her songs.

With Wilder set to make her Glastonbury debut on the BBC Introducing Stage this weekend, you should definitely try to catch this track live if you can (or on BBC iPlayer, if you’re not one of the lucky ones).
