Asheville, North Carolina-based Indigo De Souza released their new single, Crying Over Nothing, on June 4th, and the track’s explosive music, beginning from the heavy synth that opens the track, combined with raw and emotional vocals, promises an album packed with range and talent.

The song’s title, Crying Over Nothing, relates to a concept all too familiar to a young audience: that being the feeling that emotions are unjustified or should be ignored because of a history of being shut down. This is increasingly apparent when Indigo sings “I’m crying over nothing” in the middle of listing all of the things that they’re crying over, like “I’m feeling you pull away” and “I still love you like I did at the start”. The “nothing” in question isn’t the lack of things to be crying over; it’s the lack of stability and structure of a relationship that would make the crying feel justified.

Throughout the track, with lines like “Maybe someday, we can just be friends,” De Souza perfectly balances reflective sadness with hope, creating an effect of creative timelessness. Crying Over Nothing follows Heartthrob as the second single off of Indigo’s fourth studio album, Precipice, which is set to release July 25th, followed by a US tour in the fall.

Precipice is out July 25th via Loma Vista Recordings.
