I Didn’t Realise is the debut track from Australian artist Karen Harding, that finds its roots in old school folk with subtle hints of contemporary pop coming through. In her attempt to craft a heartbreak ballad, she intertwines bittersweet melodies with the emotional turmoil that one faces after the end of a relationship.

The song captures the raw emotions in her textured vocals and gentle piano, as she finds her newly found strength past the broken connection — “But here I am standing on my own two feet / Now you’re gone, I’m moving on”. As she sings in a soft monotone through the song, the poignant acoustic melody is accompanied by a medley of drums and strings just as it hits the crescendo.

In the official film clip released by the artist, a vlog style self-recorded video, we see Harding wander through the woods as she transforms from a brooding lover to one that has emerged from the cracks of a broken relationship.

In her debut single, and hopefully the start of an illustrative career, Harding turns her own experience with heartbreak into something soulful and relatable; something many of us will appreciate.

I Didn’t Realise is out now.
