As we hurtle towards the middle of our generation’s roaring 20s, there is an undeniable air of yearning. However, where our fellow man from a century ago solely dreamt of the future, we find ourselves ever more interested in the past. We find that we’re feeling nostalgia for times we may not have even existed in or were too young to remember.

Own World’s SIMULATE takes us back to the late 90s and early 00s where trippy, dreamy, hazy music was reserved for the coolest amongst us. Their new single creates a mysterious atmosphere with a synth sound that drives the melody and complements the breathy vocals of the track.

While many layers of the track design a murky ambience, the crisp percussion pulls us out of the trance and centres the mood, adding elements of hip-hop to the otherwise tranquil sound. This juxtaposition propels the tune into a more modern setting, not confining itself to a single sub-genre. Combining airy, elongated motifs with a staccato drum creates a unique sound that captures your attention.
