There seems to be quite a lot of good music coming out of Liverpool at the moment. Among the faces we’ve seen emerge on the city’s scene in the last few years are SPINN, a four-piece who — following their warmly-received self-titled debut LP in 2019 — are back with the announcement of a brand new album, Outside Of The Blue. Their most recent track, Stargazing, is the second single to be released from the upcoming record.

Powered by glittering guitars and a driving bass line, Stargazing has a slight ‘80s shoegaze vibe, but with a modern twist; B-town bands such as JAWS and Swim Deep spring to mind, and that’s no bad thing! According to the band’s Spotify, the song was inspired by the film “A Girl Walks Home at Night”, which shows a definite creative flair in SPINN’s writing, as they incorporate other interests into their music and translate that into something new. I’ve not seen the film but the words still resonate, with the repetition of “Stargazing tonight” in the chorus giving the track a dreamy, almost wistful atmosphere, with a touch of mystery as the lyrics occasionally take a darker turn.

It’s only recently that I’ve become familiar with SPINN’s music, but Stargazing has definitely convinced me to listen more. I’ve had the track on repeat since I first heard it; it’s a must-listen for any fan of catchy, uplifting indie-pop. Stick it on — I guarantee it’ll give you a spring in your step.

Out Of The Blue is out on the 5th of November via Modern Sky UK.
