The Last Dinner Party continue their celebrations on euphoric sophomore single ‘Sinner’

The Londoners are still absolutely killing it on their eagerly anticipated second single.

Since exploding onto the global indie scene with their debut single Nothing Matters back in April, The Last Dinner Party have been a name on everyone’s lips. Within a matter of weeks, they not only accumulated millions of streams, but also grew a dedicated fanbase who have been stuck to their side ever since.

Yet, skyrocketing at this unbelievable rate (and as women) in the modern age unfairly brings with it keyboard warriors and complaints, as accusations of the band being ‘industry plants’ circulated on social media. But why argue with a band this good? They’ve grafted on the live circuit, developed an entrancing stage presence, brought their intentionally elaborate image to life, and are now releasing banger after banger. I mean, what more could you possibly want?

It only takes a few seconds to fall in love with their latest single Sinner, with the band bringing their trademark theatrics and bold, maximalist sound to another exciting track.

Introducing itself slowly through a bouncy piano rhythm and warping guitars, Sinner puts a spotlight on guitarist Lizzie Mayland’s vocals, alongside Abigail Morris’, bringing the opportunity for even more enchanting and expressive harmonies than their debut. Mayland’s vocals during the bridge in particular are incredibly mesmerizing, as the control she has over each note and the warmth in her tone creates a gorgeous moment of tenderness in the track, which gives the listener a quick and captivity breather before building into one of TLDP’s characteristically euphoric endings.

Everything from the bass rhythm to the swerving guitar riff just gels so well throughout the entire single. There is so much structure to their song-writing — you can really tell that their sound is one that doesn’t come about by chance. They’ve clearly put so much thought and hard work into the production of their music, as well as their aesthetic, and so have developed an incredibly clear sonic and visual image for themselves.

You can feel that they have fun with their music. They’re not trying to be anything but themselves and are just here for a good time, which is really at the heart of what makes them so refreshing and likeable as a band.

I don’t know about you but, like The Last Dinner Party, I’m also here for a good time. So I’ll be RSVP-ing to every single invite they send and will be impatiently waiting for their next release.

Sinner is out now via Universal Music.
