Claire Rosinkranz releases her second EP ‘6 Of A Billion’

With 6 Of A Billion, the 17-year-old shows she’s not just a one-hit-wonder: she’s an indie-pop star who has a knack for making adolescence feel fresh, fun, and just the right amount of angst.

After her hit single Backyard Boy took TikTok by storm, Claire Rosinkranz’s follow-up EP 6 Of A Billion arrived earlier this month. Encapsulated in the trials and tribulations of coming of age, Rosinkranz takes listeners on an indie-pop filled journey.

The EP starts with a song that is filled with adolescent adventure. On the surface, Claire seems like a standup kid who stays out of trouble but she croons about how she’s actually sneaking out and spending her Saturdays partying in a hotel with her friends. She knows she could get caught but she’s young and wants to have a good time with her friends. Backed by a catchy instrumental and lyrics that will have you singing along by the time the last chorus comes in, it’s too fun of an opener to pass up.

It doesn’t take too long for Claire to move from party songs to bearing her feelings. The second song Pretty Little Things is all about young love and crushes that don’t work out the way you want. She reflects on how sometimes it’s just fate that things don’t work. It’s a relatable, soft song that is a perfect addition to anyone’s playlist all about wanting what you can’t have.

On the flip side, Boy In A Billion is an anthem for realizing that there’s other fish in the sea. Claire knows her worth and knows that she will get over the pain she’s feeling. The love was good but it’s over now, and she picks herself up after.

And yet, the second the next song begins, it seems that she’s found another fish in the sea. Fall Apart is about a friend whom she has affectionate feelings for but knows she won’t want to ruin things. It’s the all-too-relatable catch 22 most folks in Claire’s demographic can relate to and a perfect middle track. The short and breezy three-minute song ladled with harmonies and minimalist instrumentals is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for fans and new listeners alike.

6 Of A Billion’s lead single, Frankenstein, is a signature Claire indie-pop ballad about never finding the perfect boy, so she fantasizes about building the perfect one a-la Frankenstein style. It’s a groovy pop number that has disco flare and even cowbells (Hey, can we get some cowbells?) yet it feels right at home in the EP.

The final song on the album, LAX, takes the EP back towards the theme of introspection while also taking in everyone else around her. She observes everyone in LAX who she likely will never see again but takes in every detail. They’re all going somewhere and maybe they’re running from their problems like her. It’s a suitable ending to Rosinkranz’s latest effort to make it a well-rounded experience.

With 6 Of A Billion, Claire Rosinkranz shows she’s not just a one-hit-wonder: she’s an indie-pop star who has a knack for making adolescence feel fresh, fun, and just the right amount of angst. It’s clear she knows who she is, what she wants, and has a knack for putting it into songs that you can come to when you feel the same way. It’s no wonder that at only seventeen she’s already had impressive growth as a star. She might just be one in a billion.
