she’s green drop new EP ‘swallowtail’
The shoegaze outfit’s dazzling new EP is out tomorrow.
If trees and flowers could sing, it would be portrayed through the soul of she’s green, the nature-inspired quintet from Minneapolis. she’s green are ready to bless your ears with their newest EP, swallowtail. So far, the band have sealed their steps in concrete over in the US as a quintessential band of the shoegaze genre, and are quickly leaping across the pond to the UK to solidify their image.
Consisting of seven ethereal tracks that are sure to ease the spirits, the album features heavy guitar reverb and lush synth tones. Straight away, the tone of the EP is established by opening track, locket.
Setting the musical scene with instrumentals and dreamy energy that ebbs and flows like a river, lead singer Zofia Smith provides a vocal arrangement that soothes the soul and heals the mind. Flowing into the next track, dear ivy continues their iconic sound, featuring twinkling vocals and distorted guitar, which eventually mesh into an anchor of melodic arrangement highly reminiscent of shoegaze bands Pale Saints and, of course, Slowdive.
The next track proves to be a standout, as it has a slightly different sound from the rest of the album, providing an upbeat, dreampop vibe. empty house creates a gentle contrast to the other songs while heavily complementing the album and the band’s sound. With the familiarity of a gentle strum of a love song, or a love that could have been, the song blooms like the wildflowers of spring. This song, along with the next two — paper thin and mettle — were released as singles on the run-up to the EP release.
Maintaining the feeling of floating along sonic sound waves like a body of water, each song on the EP echoes otherworldly vocals, lyrics and distorted guitars, making every second of its runtime feel like you’re ascending.
The closing track, which was also released as a single, presents itself as a seven-minute-long ballad. Zofia explains that close your eyes is about a stranger who frequently revisited her in her dreams, and how together they built a life by the ocean but, when she woke up and they weren’t there anymore, she almost felt as though she mourned them. This is accompanied by an aesthetically rich, blue-toned music video directed by Jaxon Whittingon, making the song an immersive and sonically cinematic experience.
With a strong, consistent sound and performance throughout the EP, she’s green have once again proven that they’re ones to watch. Recently, the band have found themselves on the ‘NME 100 Essential Emerging Artists of 2026’ list, and have been celebrated by publications like Clash, So Young and more. In the upcoming months of August and September, the five- piece embark on an EU/UK tour that promises ambience and sonic romance like never before.
swallowtail is out July 10th via Photo Finish Records.
