Arlo Parks announces 3rd album ‘Ambiguous Desire’ with lead single ‘2SIDED’
The singer-songwriter has returned with her first music since 2023.
British singer-songwriter Arlo Parks has announced her third studio album, Ambiguous Desire, which is set for release on April 3rd via Transgressive Records. The announcement was made alongside the release of the album’s lead single, 2SIDED, marking Parks’ first new music since her 2023 album My Soft Machine.
Ambiguous Desire follows Parks’ Mercury Prize-winning debut Collapsed in Sunbeams (2021) and its successor My Soft Machine, and represents her next full-length project after a three-year gap. The album was written and recorded across a period shaped by late-night environments and nightlife culture, with influences drawn in part from time spent in New York City.
The album’s lead single, 2SIDED, was released with an accompanying music video directed by Molly Burdett. The track was co-written with Baird and Rob Bisel, both of whom have previously collaborated with Parks. Production on the song incorporates electronic and modular synth elements, signalling a shift towards more rhythm-driven and dance-influenced sounds on the forthcoming record.
In statements surrounding the release, Parks has described Ambiguous Desire as “centring on themes of longing and contradiction”, with desire positioned as a recurring motif throughout the album. She has also spoken about the role of dancing and nocturnal spaces during the writing process, which informed both the sound and atmosphere of the record.
The album features 12 tracks, including titles such as Blue Disco, Jetta, Get Go, Nightswimming and What If I Say It?. One of the tracks, Senses, includes a guest appearance from Sampha, marking a notable collaboration on the project.
Ambiguous Desire will be released digitally and on physical formats, including vinyl and CD. Parks has also announced a run of intimate record store performances in the UK to coincide with the album’s release, with further live dates expected to follow.
Ambiguous Desire is out April 3rd via Transgressive Records. Pre-order the album here.
