After a long five years of no new music, Catfish and the Bottlemen have made their much-anticipated comeback with new single Showtime and have announced two new UK headline shows.

Written and recorded by Van McCann, the new guitar-focussed track sees the frontman sing about their return to music with some telling lyrics. “If I’m not moving you I’ll be straight off out of here / Save analysing the lies for the guys who’ve got the time for it,” sings McCann ahead of the track’s soul-stirring chorus: “Get on this / Sometimes when the thing you love is right in front of your eyes / Don’t blink or you’ll miss / Showtime / Before you know it’s going gone and that’s life.”

The single is the first song to be released from the band’s yet-to-be announced fourth studio album and comes just less than a week after they teased their return by posting a teaser of the track on social media.

Alongside the release, the band also shared news that they will be performing headline shows at Cardiff Castle on July 19th and Edinburgh Summer Sessions on August 24th, just days before their headliner slot at Reading and Leeds Festival this year.

Pre-sale tickets for the shows will be available to fans who sign up to the band’s official mailing list and are set to go on sale on Tuesday (February 27th) at 10AM. General ticket sale will begin on Friday (March 1st) at 10AM.

Yet it remains unclear how many members are left of the former four-piece. In 2022, guitarist Johnny Bond confirmed he’d left the band the year before due to certain re-occurring behaviour, while drummer Bob Hall also departed during this time, and is now a member of Swedish rock band Hearts

Fans are yet to be officially informed of Catfish’s current line-up, but with the single cover featuring a shadowed image of McCann on-stage, it looks as though the frontman may be the only remaining member, leaving Benji Blakeway’s status in the band unknown.

Showtime is out now via Island Records.
