Toronto’s cootie catcher sign to Carpark Records
The announcement comes with new single ‘Gingham Dress’.
Toronto-based rock band cootie catcher have signed to Carpark Records this past week. In addition to the new label, the four-piece band is starting a fresh era, releasing a new single and music video.
Gingham Dress is loud and messy, using the frustration that fuels it to create a fun, danceable track. In the song, lead singer Sophia Chavez expresses a sentimental rage towards a previous partner, and makes a commitment to choose themselves and their boundaries to be happy rather than waiting on someone else.
The accompanying music video (directed by Khalil Haddad) creates an early-2000s feel with its funky colours and inability to sit still. The video continually blurs, going in and out of focus, while the camera moves rapidly around each shot like a fly, capturing every angle and, sonically, each note. The video doubles down on the track’s anger while embracing its brighter sounds, perfectly encapsulating the band’s emotional yet unserious energy.
Gingham Dress is out now via Carpark Records.
