Mitski announces 8th album ‘Nothing’s About To Happen To Me’
The American singer-songwriter drops first single ‘Where’s My Phone?’.
It’s been three long, unbearable years without Mitski as the unofficial Sad Girl voice. Three years since she released one of her best works to date — The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We — and graced the All Points East stage for an unforgettable performance, where she mixed haunting lyrics with a stage performance few will forget.
Only a few days ago, Mitski — who has a reputation for staying offline — dropped a couple of videos on her Instagram, alluding to the album’s release, and saw her in tartan get-up around the house. Similarly to Harry Styles, who also announced his new album, she wasted no time in sharing the news of her 8th studio offering, Nothing’s About To Happen To Me, with the first single, Where’s My Phone?.
If you were expecting more solemn sounds from Mitski, then you might want to look away. Akin to the roaring guitar found on tracks like Your Best American Girl or I Bet on Losing Dogs, it feels like once again Mitski might be going through a period of experiencing genuine happiness. That’s not to say her sad songs aren’t brilliant, but they certainly aren’t helpful…
