Part-Time Model sign to LAB Records and share debut single ‘Cut Off Point’
The quartet emerge as the latest in a string of musicians finding their feet in Leeds.

With their debut single being released at the end of September, Part-Time-Model are one to watch in the ever-growing music scene that Leeds has built for itself.
Cut Off Point dropped right at the end of the summer, providing the perfect hazy, indie-influenced track to transition right into autumn. The quartet have signed to LAB Records, and this debut already shows so much confidence and security in the style that is clearly communicated through a four-minute runtime.
Lucy Tessier’s blend of almost spoken-word style vocals during the chorus, along with a more melodic use of her voice in the verses, creates such a beautiful sound, likening Cut Off Point to a piece of poetry, with the dreamy instrumentation emphasising the saddened yet almost hopeful contents of the lyrics.
The bridge is perhaps my favourite part of the track; the distortion used reflects the confusion and turmoil the song reflects on, with the repetition of “Where the hell / Is my head at?” flowing seamlessly with the hook of the guitar. The track allows us to breathe, with lengthy instrumental moments throughout the song, conveying that Part-Time Model’s strength lies not only in its members’ talent, but also in their ability to pace and construct a track effectively. The song doesn’t feel rushed; in fact, it’s the complete opposite, as you can soak in all four minutes of indie-rock-soaked melody.
Their influence from Leeds is clear; Cut Off Point almost sounds like a secret track from Mercury Award-winning band English Teacher’s debut, This Could Be Texas, in the absolute best way possible (with its incredible use of vocals and raw emotion). Leeds is sure to be leading the way for indie music, and I look forward to seeing how Part-Time Model grows and evolves over the next year, especially under LAB Records.
