SoftTop announce debut album ‘Gathering Dust’ with new single ‘Paving Stones’
The new single offers a second glimpse into the album’s blurry ‘70s dreamscape.
Brighton’s SoftTop have announced that their debut album, Gathering Dust, will arrive on June 19th via Crafting Room Recordings.
Alongside the announcement, the seven-piece ensemble have shared the album’s second single, Paving Stones — an orchestral jazz-pop delight brimming with warm woodwind and a groove that feels lifted from a hazy ‘70s house party.
Gathering Dust unfolds as a conceptual album centred on a character left comatose after being struck by a car on his way to a party. The album’s first single, Your Aching Words, introduced the opening chapter, while each subsequent track is set to explore another facet of the protagonist’s suspended state: the world moving forward without him, the eerie pull of the coma itself, and the dissolving boundary between reality and imagination.
Originally formed in March 2023 as the songwriting project of bandleader Miles Goodall, SoftTop blends the warmth of classic soft rock with a distinctly modern indie intimacy. Influenced by Andy Shauf’s storytelling, Matt Maltese’s melodic nuance, and the rich textures of Steely Dan, SoftTop create music that draws listeners into their sprawling, immersive stories.
