The Dandy Warhols cover The Violent Femmes ahead of new covers album ‘Pin Ups’

‘Kiss Off’, from the Femmes’ debut album, sees an expanded, psychedelic cover on the Warhols’ ‘Pin Ups’ record, alongside the Grateful Dead and The Beatles.

Veterans of the indie rock genre, The Dandy Warhols, have announced the release of Pin Ups — their first cover album — for a March 20th release. The hitmakers behind groovy alt favourites Bohemian Like You, We Used to be Friends and Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth have put out Kiss Off (originally by The Violent Femmes) as a teaser.

Sung by longtime keyboardist Zia McCabe, the Femmes’ cover builds on the original with electric guitar, psychedelic passages and psychobilly tendencies, lending the whole piece a kind of Cramps feel. The Cramps themselves are covered on the Warhols’ upcoming release (Goo Goo Muck), as well as The Cure (Primary), Bob Dylan (Lay Lady Lay) and the Cult — twice! (Rain, She Sells Sanctuary).

Across three sides, the unconventional covers record draws from B-sides, tribute albums, bonus tracks and hard drives. Following 2024’s impeccable Rockmaker and follow-up remix edition (Rock ReMaker), Pin Ups marks another exciting era in the Dandy Warhols’ long and fruitful career.

If there’s one thing you can count on the four-piece from Oregon for, it’s never knowing what to expect. That said, if their 2000 cover of AC/DC’s Hells Bells is anything to go by, it’s going to be wild, and it’s going to be great.
