The Lazy Eyes announce their return with 2nd album ‘Cheesy Love Songs’
The news comes with second single ‘The One Who Got Away’.
Four years since their debut album SongBook, the Australian psych rockers are back with a bang. In that time, they’ve supported Wet Leg, Djo and The Strokes and garnered support from Elton John on Apple Music, BBC Radio 6 Music and have been lauded by the likes of NME, So Young and DIY. It wasn’t too long ago that the band posted on their socials after a period of silence, promising that an album was coming.
Expanding on their already wonderful discography, The One Who Got Away is mesmerising, telling the tale of a love that doesn’t and could never exist, and being too caught up in desire to enjoy the present, and is a sequel to the 2022 track Imaginary Girl.
If you’ve ever longed for someone you could never have or yearned for a love that was never really there, you’ll find solace within these melodies. Exuding all the classic charm of their debut album, the first two singles from their second album, Cheesy Love Songs, promise a hell of an album waiting for us this August.
Speaking on the single, the band said, “This song captures a feeling of regret or longing for a type of love that you know can’t exist in your reality. It’s a little bit about the human desire of always wanting what you can’t have and thinking how perfect things could have been instead of being present and just enjoying your life. It’s about holding on to fantasy and in that way it has a dreamy and sad quality to it. It’s definitely not your run-of-the-mill ‘we’re happy together I love you’ type of song. It’s not exactly about heartbreak either, it’s about a love that never was.”
Cheesy Love Songs is out August 21st via AWAL. Pre-save here.
