Black Honey release edgy new grunge-rocker ‘Insulin’
The band share details of a UK tour.
The single drops alongside dates of the band’s upcoming album release tour, promoting what will be their fourth record, Soak.
Just looking at the names of Black Honey’s recent three singles — Psycho, Dead and Insulin — tells you all you need to know about the upcoming fourth release, Soak. Once again, frontwoman Izzy B. Phillips converts youthful disillusion and SSRI-induced nihilism into grunge-y, post-punk, sub-three-minute rock tunes. “You’re fucking with my insulin / It’s not fair,” drones Phillips in her trademark delicate-as-papyrus indifference. With three singles out and the full album dropping August 15th, it’s never been a better time to convert to the bruising gospel of Black Honey.
The release comes alongside details of the group’s upcoming album release tour, which will see the four-piece visit record stores and independent venues across the country, from iconic Pryzm in Kingston through to Bristol, Nottingham and Manchester.
Building on the darker subject matter of previous album A Fistful of Peaches (2023) – with songs like Heavy and Rock Bottom, both on poor mental health, and I’m A Man detailing sexual assault – Black Honey live up to their name and establish themselves as the bogey-folk of the modern pop-rock scene. They write catchy, riff-y numbers made for the stage, putting their generational slump onto the music sheet and throwing two fingers up at it.
Soak is out August 15th via Foxfive Records and available to pre-order from Rough Trade here.
