‘I Got Friends’ from Sunflowers is brash, uncompromising, and a wonderful listen
The fierce nature of this track has a lot to love about it, and it all morphs in something particularly interesting.
As soon as this track opens, everything comes in aggressively, with the guitars and all of the other instrumentation that come together, setting a very specifically cultivated tone for the vocals to step in and to do their thing as well. The main thing about this track is how it holds onto this tone for the entirety of it. This feels like something that wouldn’t be out of place at a festival with people in mosh pits, as it feels like that kind of energy is radiating off the track — in the best way possible.
I Got Friends is a three-minute track packed to the brim with ferocity in everything that it does, from the guitars to the almost outright spoken word vocals. It’s very in your face and very unapologetic in doing so. This feels like Sunflowers not compromising even slightly in what this track was intended to be, and I think it’s particularly interesting because it feels like it’s set in stone regarding what the track is drawing out, regarding how you’re going to feel listening to it. It’s the equivalent of running through a brick wall; it’s kicking a door down; there’s just a lot of chaotic energy harnessed very well within this track.
This is a really cool one, for sure, and it’s definitely something well worth taking a listen to.
