SAD DADS’ ‘Lawnmower’ creates the perfect balance of fun and upbeat indie rock
The duo from Brighton presents listeners with their latest single.
I’ve always admired artists who can take a seemingly mundane scenario and turn it into an excellent piece of music. SAD DADS does just that on third single, Lawnmower. A three-minute track which asks the question we’ve all pondered: how does the grass grow so fast?
With an effortlessly catchy riff laying right at its centre, the instrumentation works as the perfect backdrop for the comedic style of writing that SAD DADS takes on for the lyrics. I’d liken the style to something similar to the Welsh band Melin Melyn, a band who see both the narrative and sound of the song as equally important.
The layered vocals give the song a friendly and fun feel, as it even feels as though the listener themselves have been immersed in the slightly absurd world of SAD DADS. It’s refreshing to see a band who are able to not take themselves so seriously while still maintaining an exceptional level of quality in both the songwriting and use of instruments in a track. I’m excited to watch how both their music and storytelling evolve through their journey as artists.
Lawnmower tells listeners exactly who they are (talented musicians), and exactly what they hate (fast-growing grass). What more do you need to know about your new favourite Brighton band?
