Hound drop electrifying lead single ‘Pick Yourself’ from their debut album

Shetland-based melodic rockers Hound have announced their debut album, Another Lifetime in a Different Country, is arriving on September 18th. To celebrate, the band have dropped the scorching lead single Pick Yourself, which has landed in explosive fashion. The song details a broken relationship and is the opening song on Another Lifetime in a Different Country. The album is made up of ten songs recorded at the isolated Black Bay studio that trace the journey of leaving home, making it back again and everything and everyone that falls in between.
Simply put, Pick Yourself is an absolute barnstormer. It surges out of the blocks with its incredible twin-weaving guitars that sound like they are racing each other to get to the end of the song. It’s an exhilarating way to kick off a song and an even better way to launch a debut album. By the time lead singer Zack Manson’s distorted MJ Lenderman-styled vocals have landed, it’s hard not to be all in on Hound.
Don’t be fooled by the MJ Lenderman comparisons vocally; Pick Yourself is absolutely full of Pavement-inspired drive and energy. It’s slacker rock with too much hyperactive energy to be slacking.
Everything about Pick Yourself absolutely pops out of the speakers. The syncopated frenetic drumming surges the song forwards, and Manson’s melodies are incredibly hooky and addictive.
It’s exciting to hear the sound of a proper band, not in the sense of having a group of players playing together but in the sense of taking it to that further, unspoken and unseen place. That place where each band member is acting off pure instinct and the natural chemistry sees each part bouncing off the other. If you’re a fan of the chaotic, melodic energy of bands like Westside Cowboy, then it’s essential that you dive deeper into Hound.
The song ends with the infectious refrain “it’s another reason to laugh.” Even if it doesn’t make you laugh, it’s certain to at least make you smile.
