Sleeping With Sirens return after 4 years with ‘An Ending in Itself’
The American post-hardcore five piece deliver a hard hitting message with their latest track.
One of the pillars of the post-hardcore pop punk scene, Sleeping With Sirens, are back with their new single An Ending in Itself. It marks the band’s first release in over four years and the first following their re-signing to Rise Records.
Upon first listen to this track, you can immediately hear the unique sound that Sleeping With Sirens have always been known for, but with the natural evolution that has been woven in to show that the band have adapted to what audiences have come to expect from bands of similar ilk. It conserves the well that Sleeping With Sirens will go back to, but doesn’t completely rely on it, maturing the sound.
You still have the smooth Kellin Quinn vocals, coming through wonderfully on an extremely catchy chorus, mixing it up with the post-hardcore brutal vocals, especially within the breakdown in this song. Kellin Quinn has always been known for his beautiful, clean vocals, whilst also providing the heavy-hitting, harsh vocals, which always lay a great foundation for any Sleeping With Sirens project. This is perfectly orchestrated within this song, with Kellin’s crisp vocal bringing forward the poignancy within the lyrics for the majority of the song. The harsh vocals really hit home the buildup and climax of the breakdown, adding an impact of angst in a masterful way.
Kellin Quinn goes into detail about the track, stating that, “It’s a love letter to anyone in the midst of struggle. I think we live in an age where we’re supposed to pretend like we have it ‘all together all of the time’ so much so that we’re afraid to let anyone in. I think it’s important to have open dialogue and to ask for help when we need it. This song is about being brave enough to admit that we’re not always okay. No matter what you’re going through, there is hope.”
This is very apparent when looking at the track lyrically: “When will we stop pretending that it's all so good? Can we say what’s real? Say how you feel, yeah, I wish you would”. The lyrics are for those who should look to embrace that we are not okay and that a problem shared is a problem halved. It is a message that will really resonate with a lot of people, and its messages and lyricism like this that has allowed Sleeping With Sirens to continue to reach the heights they achieved with their name being as relevant as ever.
Sleeping With Sirens are playing live this year with US dates at Welcome to Rockville festival, Warped Tour (DC, Long Beach and Orlando), Inkcarceration, Louder Than Life and Aftershock Festival. No shows have been announced yet for the UK or Europe.
