jamie xx is the latest single from musicians vegas water taxi, off their upcoming EP first time listener. Next month sees the EP, which follows October’s long time caller, forming half of a full-length release: long time caller, first time listener.

But for now, all you need to know is that — in one fell swoop — vegas water taxi has kicked off 2026 with one of the catchiest releases of the last decade; easy-going, Californian heartland à la Petty’s Free Fallin’ souped with a little ‘90s jangle-pop and noughties pop-punk.

jamie xx has some of the dreamiest guitar work I’ve heard in a while; pure honey for the ears, which warrants more than one click of the ‘play’ button. Frontman Ben Hambro’s syrupy-smooth vocals are a tonic to the mid-January blues, and the whole piece sets the perfect scene for the group’s upcoming full-length release. Indie music is alive and well in 2026, here’s living proof.

jamie xx is out now via PNKSLM Recordings.
