World News go full nostalgia-rock in single ‘Sidestep’

The London four-piece return with new single ahead of 25-date UK/Europe tour.

The quartet, who are about to head out on the road for the next few months, have put out a new track, Sidestep, a lovingly slaved-over piece of power pop. It’s got the musical maturity you’d expect from the industry’s established, weathered songwriters — think early U2 or Simple Minds.

The single feels assuringly of-age and curated; it’s not a release that cares for rushing. Indeed, there’s a three-minute, radio-friendly ‘edit’ that (criminally) eschews the track’s rousing guitar solo finale.

With jangly riffs and passionate disillusion (“Wasting your life / You feel all at home on the edge of a knife”), there’s a nostalgic, almost austere feel to Sidestep. And yet, at the same time, with big, swooning choruses and some airy guitar work, World News’ latest is unbridled and universal.

Sidestep is out now via Pie & Mash. Find the complete tour dates below.
