Four years on from their debut studio album, Lucky Me, released on Chess Club Records, Phoebe has since gone independent and returned with lead single, There’s Always Someone Kicking The Seat, an honest reflection on her first queer break-up and taken from upcoming second album, PREMATURE NOSTALGIA.

Speaking about the album and its name, Phoebe explains: “The album mostly explores my tendency to be extremely sentimental and attach value to every little thing — feeling nostalgic before a moment is even over and trying to control the grieving process by going through the motions prematurely in order to prepare myself.”

Written and produced with long-term collaborator, flatmate and sister Lucy Green (Elucyve), the album was made between their flat in Manchester and their home town of Lytham St Annes, in their parents’ home. The album promises to take on a more electronic and darker shape, with field recordings and metallic textures from Manchester’s industrial landscape and club culture intertwined throughout. As if the collaboration between the siblings wasn’t enough, Picture Parlour’s Katherine Parlour will also feature on the album.

Lead single There’s Always Someone Kicking The Seat is Phoebe’s first ‘proper’ break-up song and is written in a diary-like style, with Phoebe venting to get things off her chest post break-up.

Speaking on the track, Phoebe said, “We wanted this song to feel extremely visceral, as though the listener is experiencing the story firsthand; it was written in a similar way to Reinvent lyrically, where I just wanted to get an experience off my chest and melodically nothing fit, so I ended up just talking. It’s maybe my only proper break-up song, and Lucy really beautifully encapsulated the chaotic emotional journey sonically. It felt really fitting for the verses to feel quite matter-of-fact, recounting events, then melancholic choruses followed by a cathartic outro.”

If the deeply honest and addictive lead single is anything to go by, Phoebe is all set for an album of the year.

PREMATURE NOSTALGIA is out October 2nd via The Green Dream Machine / Absolute. Pre-order the album here.
