Sam Burton signs to Captured Tracks and announces new album
The folk singer has also dropped a brand new single and announced a UK tour.

Sam Burton has announced his signing to Captured Tracks for the release of his brand-new upcoming album Fairweather Friend. It’s the folk singer’s third solo album and is preceded by the excellent new single I’m A Stranger. Speaking of the song, Burton said that “the song sits somewhere between nostalgia and alienation. It’s more of a feeling than a statement. There is no home to go back to.” The song instantly brings to mind echoes of Bob Dylan on his seminal country record Nashville Skyline. It’s breezy and folky but packed full of emotion and lyrical depth.
Fairweather Friend was recorded again with Jonathon Wilson (Father John Misty, Conor Oberst) following their successful partnership on Burton’s last solo record Dear Departed. However, this time when they had finished recording, Burton felt like he needed to record some of the songs again. Those songs were recorded again live without a producer, and Burton said that finishing them was like “a cycle felt like it had completed.”
Taking inspiration from the likes of Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen, Burton’s songwriting is full of feeling and is made to be listened to at nighttime, in the relaxing darkness. With that in mind, Burton has announced a UK/EU tour this December.
