The ‘Green Man Rising’ competition has been going for 17 years, giving up-and-coming artists the incredible opportunity of opening the iconic mountain stage on the Friday morning when the festival really kicks off.

Indie artist Tallchild was announced as the Rising winner this year, and will not only receive a great performing slot at the festival, but also release a physical record with Dinked, record a live session and bag a week of studio time at PRAH recordings.

The runners-up who also performed at the Green Man Rising final will also bag a spot at the festival (on the Rising stage), along with a recorded live session. The runners up this year were Cyn Cwsg, who harnesses a kind of down-tempo, soothing sound, Glasshouse Red Spider Mite, an artist whose tracks seem to build slowly over their 6-minute runtime, Kiosk, a completely contrasting upbeat electronic feel and The Slow Country, a band whose music harnesses such a joyous and uplifting feel — and they even played on our stage at The Great Escape Festival in May.

Both the Rising stage and competition really embodies Green Man’s incredible range of taste in artists, proving that the number of listeners or the amount of music you have released is in no way equal to an artist’s talent. Shedding the spotlight on bands who are sure to flourish and grow under this encouragement from the festival is such a great thing for Green Man to be hosting and, hopefully, these artists will soon receive the recognition that they truly deserve. If you’re heading out to Green Man this year, be sure to check out the Rising stage, as you might just see some future headliners there.
