Balancing Act turn up the heat on new single ‘Sunshine’
Old-school rock grit meets cinematic ambition on the indie-rock band’s latest single.
It’s only been a few months since Balancing Act released part one of their debut album, Who’ve You Come As?, yet they’re already back with more. Blessing fans with their latest single, Sunshine, the indie-rock quartet have made it clear they’re not messing around this year.
Serving as a teaser for part two of their album, Sunshine sees Balancing Act’s cinematic ambition hit the big screen. Sultry, brooding, and at times unconstrained, the track feels fit for a dark-hued epic — one where a shadowy protagonist teeters on the edge of losing it. Paired with the song’s old-school rock feel, Sunshine successfully strikes a balance between familiarity and freshness.
Built on magnetic rhythms, slick production and, dare I say, sexy guitars, the track has multiple layers of bite. From its sharp lyrical edge to its charging intensity, there’s a constant push and pull driving the song forward.
As the track barrels towards its end, any threads that were holding it (and us) together begin to unravel. A wild energy takes over as Kai Jon Roberts’ vocals hit the ‘he’ll need a cuppa and a soother after that one’ mark. It’s a moment that underlines Balancing Act’s willingness to take risks and follow a song wherever it wants to go.
In this case, Sunshine demands to be played loud. The bassline pulses through you, the guitars hypnotise you and, for a moment, you lose your entire grip on reality. Whether you use that time to dance carelessly or to smash shit is entirely up to you.
Sunshine is out now.
