With a name inspired by the Gaelic word for ‘storyteller’, North London-based indie-rock outfit Shanakee are introducing themselves as a compelling new voice that’s worth listening to.

On their debut single, This Town, the duo offers up a heartfelt exploration of the bittersweet feeling of outgrowing familiar surroundings while still holding them close. Effortlessly balancing melancholy with uplift, the track captures the complex emotional tug-of-war between leaving home, chasing dreams, and confronting the routines we often get stuck in.

There’s a nostalgic, almost cinematic quality to the song. From the soaring guitar lines to the narrative-led lyrics, it evokes a vivid sense of place and memory without ever feeling heavy-handed. Reminiscent of Sam Fender’s anthemic realism, This Town wears its heart on its sleeve, making it instantly relatable to anyone who has ever felt torn between staying and leaving.

With a plan to release one song a month in the lead up to their debut EP in June, This Town serves as a stirring introduction to a duo who seem poised to deliver more memorable and emotionally charged tracks this year.

Tour dates:

February 3rd: Jaguar Shoes, Shoreditch, London (Free tickets here)

This Town is out now via Clarity Records.
