English Weather release their new track ‘Grey & Old’
The track is a beautiful exploration of grief.
Indie folk four-piece English Weather return with an emotive single on their new EP, highlighting just how fleeting life can be with this moving tribute to frontman Jack March’s late grandfather. The journey this song takes you on is something really rather special, as you feel you are in the grips of a love that is never-ending and proves to us all that, even when the ones you love the most are no longer with us, they still walk beside us every day.
Opening with the lines, “The love between you and me is love that runs as deep as trees / Love that knows no victory / A love that no one else can see”, immediately draws you in to what you already know will be an endearing song about love and loss. With the gentle guitar notes paired with the subtle vocals following throughout, it’s a song that effortlessly transports you into your feels.
The instruments are stripped back across this track, allowing for Jack and Aidan’s vocals to take centre stage. This duo are doing what they do best by matching one another’s harmonies perfectly, which makes the subject matter even more touching when it’s delivered so faultlessly. After forming the band back in 2020 as just a duo and honing their craft together as a two-piece, they later expanded and welcomed drummer Paddy Long as well as bassist and producer Tom Campbell. This fresh lineup has added a new dimension to the band, all whilst keeping to their authentic sound as so clearly heard on this new release.
Sitting alongside this track is a well-edited home footage video, adding to the nostalgia and those carefree moments of being young. What these guys have created is nothing short of beautiful storytelling done really well.
That’s surely what it’s all about, right? Transporting us to those places where we can release and process the rollercoaster emotions that life can bring, all wrapped up in harmonies that really speak to the soul, proving that music will always have the power to heal.
