‘O Calamity’ sees Divorce return to the past
The British four-piece release a Country-tinged new single from their back catalogue.
Divorce have just released, O Calamity, a new single which marks their first release since their highly acclaimed debut album, Drive to Goldenhammer, dropped earlier this year.
For their new material, however, the band decided to have a sift through their songwriting archives. O Calamity was, in fact, one of the earliest songs written together by vocalists, Tiger and Felix, and was penned before Divorce was even formed. When speaking about the song, Tiger noted it “feels like an absolute world away, but good songs never get old”. And right they are, as O Calamity carries the same emotional depth and beautifully crafted storytelling fans have come to expect from the band.
The song itself is a beautiful country-tinged ballad. The track has a certain nostalgic quality to it, accentuated by its diaristic and reflective lyricism. As always, Tiger and Felix’s vocals blend beautifully and take the stripped-back track to new heights. While simpler than some of their usual arrangements, the instrumentation is utterly enchanting as gently plucked strings channel a sense of warmth throughout the tune.
O Calamity just goes to reinforce that Divorce are a musical force to be reckoned with as even their earliest material showcases the band’s undeniable talent.
